Housing for God’s People in Need “A Hand Up Not A Handout”

Habitat for Humanity of Lee County is an ecumenical Christian non-profit organization dedicated to providing housing for those who cannot otherwise afford a decent place to live, with the ultimate goal of eliminating substandard housing in Lee County, contributing to family and community stability. We volunteer every two months, but there is always opportunities for you to volunteer if you are interested.

No construction experience is necessary!

Times to volunteer: Tuesday thru Saturday, 8:30AM-5:00PM

Equipment To Bring:

First Christian Church provides all the tools needed. If you have tools you prefer using you are more than welcome to bring them. Water is provided throughout the day as well.

Grill Team Lunch Menu:

The Grill Team comes out every build to cook for the job sites in the area.

September 15th: BBQ Pork, chips, watermelon and cookies.

November 17th: Hamburgers and hotdogs, chips, watermelon and cookies.

Habitat Thrift Store

The Thrift Store was originally started to help families furnish their homes with affordable items. Today, volunteers help run the store as it’s open to the public. All proceeds from the sale of donated items go toward the construction of Habitat homes. Volunteer Times: Tuesday thru Saturday, 9:00a.m.—5:00p.m.

Paint Shop

Pre-painting door and window frames as well as the trim in the paint shop next to our North Ft. Myers office. Volunteer Times: Monday thru Friday, 8:30a.m.—2:00p.m.

Clothing and Safety:

* A hat, old shirt, and old jeans or shorts. covered foot wear. For safety reasons, no sandals or open-toed shoes are allowed.

* Dress in layers on chillier winter days. Cool mornings often turn into warm afternoons.

* Wear gardening/work gloves if possible.

* On hot, sunny days, get in the shade every half hour. Wear light-colored clothing. Wear sunscreen and reapply as often as necessary.

* Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of water or sport drinks.

* Do not put hammers in back pockets.

* Wear safety glasses (provided at worksite) when using or are around electrical equipment.

* If you are uncomfortable about completing a task, let the construction supervisor know so we can find an alternative task for you to complete.

Habitat Home Qualifications:

*You must have either lived or worked in Lee County for the past 12 months.

* You must either be a US citizen or a permanent resident alien with your resident alien card.

* You must be married, single or divorced. If you are separated we will accept your application after reconciliation or divorce. If you are married or living together both need to apply as applicant and co-applicant.

* You must wait 5 years after a foreclosure or bankruptcy is finalized to apply.

* Your total household income must be a minimum of $12,792 and may not exceed $44,800.
